When you're a celebrity...
This is the blog where I become a little bitchy. I know, I know...I try to hold back and do a pretty good job at it. However, I just saw something that cracked me up. How does that make me bitchy? Here's why...
I don't follow this person's blog and I will change a few of the facts in order to not make it so obvious as to whom I am speaking of. I was reading a blog that I follow when to the right of his blog, I saw current postings from people he follows. The title of the post caught my attention so I went to that blog. It seems this blogger had held a contest and there was a prize to be awarded to the winner. That's a good idea. Maybe an effort to draw comments or followers? Whatever the reason, it's a good idea. Who doesn't like to win something?
This post in particular was the grand finale where the winner was selected. So I wondered...what is the prize? Well, it was an autographed CD. How cool is that! Well, it was their copy of the cd by a particular artist. It was not signed by the artist...It was signed by the blogger. The way they said it was like this...This is my personal cd that I bought and loved, but I have already listened to it so I am autographing it and sending it out to the lucky winner. Really? Ok, so the cd itself is a score but who does this blogger think they are? It just came off as very narcissistic. I mean, do you think people want your autograph just because you're a blogger?
There are of course, exceptions to every rule. One of the blogs I follow, is Dean Grey's "Exploding Doughnut". I love his blog! He is good blogger and an extremely talented artist. A few months ago he held a contest and the prize was one of his paintings. I won it!....YAY! It was signed...but he is an artist and he should sign HIS work. Julie Powell was a great blogger who became a writer. Her book "Julie & Julia" became a movie last year. If I were following her blog, I might have asked for her autograph AFTER her book was published. I did check, this person is not famous...they work a regular 9 to 5 type job AND they don't have a ton of followers.
It got me to thinking(Yay, something finally got me thinking)...in this world where we are so obsessed with celebrities...are we obsessed with becoming one too?
Is blogging our attempt to attract "fans" and "followers". Are all bloggers a bit narcissistic? Remember, I'm a blogger too so I'm also talking about myself. I like to post
all kinds of things because that's who I am. I love cooking ...so you will see cooking post. I love pop culture...so you will see related blogs. I love gay related issues...so I will post stuff relevant to that. I will also throw in some blogs about myself and my life. That's just how I roll! II might now also do some contest on my blog. I really like that idea...but please, and I am begging you...if I offer to autograph it for you....STOP ME, PLEASE!
I'm curious, am I being a big bitch?
