Dark and lovely: Amanda Seyfried was wearing a teeny LBD at the European premiere of Red Riding Hood tonight in London's Leicester Square

She was last seen looking rather miserable with equally downcast boyfriend Ryan Phillippe in Paris, the city of romance - but Amanda Seryfried was all smiles tonight as she launched her latest movie in London.

The Mamma Mia star, 25, was looking stunning in a short and tight black minidress and black peep toe heels on the suitably red carpet for the launch of her new movie Red Riding Hood.

However, there was no sign of her beau Ryan Phillipe, 36, to see the transformation of his sweetheart at the London Leicester Square premiere.

Once upon a time: Amanda stars in the Twilight-style version of the tale with Max Irons, left, and Shiloh Fernandez. right

Other stars at the European premiere of the movie included EastEnders star Charlie Brooks - aka evil Janine Butcher - and Jenny Falconer.

Amanda plays Valerie in the film, which is loosely based on the fairytale of the same name.

The film however takes an altogether darker, more gothic turn as if wolves disguising themselves as grandmothers and eating little girls whole wasn't quite scary enough.

Happily ever after: The trio found working together a scream

It's set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf where a young girl - Amanda's character Valerie - falls for an orphaned woodcutter, much to her family's displeasure.

She stars alongside Gary Oldman and the film also features Shiloh Fernandez, Julie Christie and Max Irons, 25, Jeremy Irons and Sinéad Cusack's son.

Amanda's boyfriend Ryan meanwhile is also currently in Europe as he promotes his new movie Lincoln Lawyer.

Fright night: Charlie Brooks, left, wore a stripy maxidress to the screening, whereas Jenny Falconer kept it casual in jeans

The pair have been together for six months after they were spotted together at Kate Hudson's Hallowe'en party.

However, their burgeoning romance was rocked by the news his ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp is pregnant - possibly with his child following their brief fling last year.

Meanwhile, Phillippe is Seyfriend's first boyfriend since splitting from English actor Dominic Cooper after a rocky two-year romance.

Red Riding Hood meanwhile, which is directed by Twilight's Catherine Hardwicke, opens in the UK on April 15.

'I smoked weed in college, but I'm too old now': Natalie Portman on her 'stoner' past as she stars in TWO comedies about the drug

By Andrea Magrath

Stoner past: Natalie Portman discusses her fondness for marijuana back in her college days

With an Oscar for Black Swan under her belt, perhaps Natalie Portman feels it's time to put her feet up and relax with some less serious roles for a change.

The actress, who has long received critical acclaim for her dramatic roles, is set to star in two upcoming 'stoner comedies'.

The first, Your Highness, is released this month, while the just-announced Best Buds will have to wait until after the birth of her first child this summer.

And Natalie, 29, says it's an area she has quite a bit of experience in, from her days at Harvard University.

'I love stoner comedies. I smoked weed in college, but I haven’t smoked in years,' she has told Entertainment Weekly.

'I’m too old. I wish I was that cool, but I’m like an old lady now. I’m in bed by 10 p.m. I can’t do that anymore.'

Her comments were made before she announced her pregnancy this year.

The actress graduated from Harvard in 2003 with a B.A. in Psychology.

During her education there she only made two films, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and a small role in Cold Mountain.

She told the New York Post at the time: 'I don't care if college ruins my career. I'd rather be smart than a movie star.'

But it appears Natalie did more in her dorm room than just studying.

And she has enjoyed reliving her 'stoner' days in Your Highness, the medieval comedy in which she stars alongside James Franco and Danny McBride.

High times: The actress stars in Your Highness, a medieval comedy about brothers with a weed habit on a quest

She plays Isabel, a mysterious warrior, who joins brothers Thadeous and Fabious in their quest to rescue Fabious' bride Belladonna from an evil sorcerer.

Their efforts are hindered by lazy Thadeous' fondness for smoking weed.

Natalie will produce and star in Best Buds. She will play a bride-to-be who blows off her wedding for a marijuana-fuelled road trip to San Diego with her two best friends.

Bad habit: Natalie will also produce and star in Best Buds, about a bride who ditches her wedding to go on a marijuana-fuelled road trip with her friends

Nicole Kidman turns action woman as she leads the charge on the battlefield in new film

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Into the fray: A red-faced Nicole Kidman pants with exertion as she shoots an intense battle scene on the set of her HBO movie in San Francisco, California

Red-faced and panting from exertion, her bobbed hair ruffled in the wind, this is not the Nicole Kidman we are used to seeing.

But the usually pristine Australian actress turned into an action star yesterday, leading her troops in intense battle scene on the set of her new movie in San Francisco, California.

With husband Keith Urban relaxing as he drank a coffee nearby, Kidman did multiple takes running across a battlefield with a group of soldiers in tow.

Intense: Kidman was in character as inspirational war correspondent, Martha Gellhorn, a reporter who risked her life to cover the Spanish Civil War and several battles during World War II

Kidman was in character as inspirational war correspondent, Martha Gellhorn, a reporter who risked her life to cover the Spanish Civil War and several battles during World War II.

She was also a novelist and a lover then wife of author Ernest Hemingway, who she met in a local bar in Florida's Key West.

Gellhorn inspired the novelist to pen one of its most famous novels, For Whom the Bell Tolls.

Hitching a ride: Nicole was surprised on set by a visit from husband Keith Urban and their daughter Sunday Rose

In character: Clive Owen stands guard in one of the scenes, left, he plays the role of author Ernest Hemingway
The film, Hemingway & Gellhorn, is an HBO movie for U.S. television and is produced by James Gandolfini, who tried for six years to get the go-ahead to make the story.

Meanwhile offscreen Kidman's country singer husband has said his family is his number one priority.

Kidman and the U.S. star, 43, have two daughters - Sunday Rose, two, and Faith Margaret, three months.

Surprise visit: Keith Urban drank coffee on set after bringing oldest daughter Sunday Rose to watch her mother at work

Speaking about their life together, he said to People magazine: 'We just have a normal life, we do normal things. Family is definitely a priority for us.'

The star was voted one of People's 'hottest guys in country music' and opened up about his first kiss - aged five.

He said: 'I think it was just on the monkey bars. I don't remember if she kissed me or I kissed her. I just sort of went: "Oh, well, that makes sense. That feels very natural."'

Day out: Kidman and her daughter, Sunday Rose visit Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat in Las Vegas, Nevada
