Today's Weather...

...is rainy and cloudy. It's a nice spring rain though, smells fresh and clean. So wholesome, just like the Carlson Twins... ;-)

The move is gettting closer...

...so future roomie Miss Mantoan is getting closer and closer to finding a place for us in California. For those who don't know the story, I was born here in SD but basically "grew up" in Cali, moved back here two years ago for school, and now am looking to move back to Cali this summer. So while I'm here trying to make ends meet on a pitiful state job, she's back there looking at condos and houses and duplexes and such. She's actually doing a really good job, she's hustling, on the ball and somewhat optimistic. I just want her to find something, then I can get excited. Then I can feel like I have something to look forward to, until then it still just seems like a dream for me. I mean, it' s not a dream, it's not like I'm some small town boy with the glimmer of Hollywood lights in his eyes are anything, Hellloooo I've lived there for like 20+ years already! It's just that after being here for so long and adjusting to the culture and financial shock of this place, California really does seem like it's a millions of miles away. I know it's going to happen, I know pretty soon I'll be back where I belong having drinks with friends at some trendy new bar or billiards hall. I'll be able to shop at my favorite places, do my favorite things and be with friends and family again. I know it'll happen, it's just frustrating waiting until then. In the meantime, living here is going ok, STILL waiting for the cowboy restaurant to open up so I can start waitering on the weekend, possibly this weekend. Same ol same ol with the "downtown" scene, it's getting kind of boring actually. I've met some nice people in the time I've been here, but like everything else, I'm ready for this cycle to end and being something else, elsewhere. ;-)

Author of Broadway's Avenue Q is tired of Jay Leno

Jeff Whitty wrote a letter to Jay Leno to let him know how tired he was of Jay's jokes about gay people.
" I caught your show when you had a tired mockery of "Brokeback Mountain," involving something about a horse done up in what you consider a "gay" way. Man, that's dated. I turned the television off and felt pretty fucking depressed. And now I understand your gay-baiting jokes have continued." You can read the whole letter here. I never thought of Jay as being offensive, I find him funny, but he (as most comics did) just had a field day with Brokeback Mountain material, it did get tiring. Good job Mr. Whitty.

Today's Weather

...is going to be cold!! So yesterday it was 80 degrees at 6pm. I had a meeting up at Desperado's in Hill City to meet the rest of the crew before the restaurant opens next week. I was there two hours, had a great time meeting with everyone and walked outside to my car in the middle of a thunderstorm! I swear, it was like Armageddon out there! Rain, wind, lightning, thunder...it was insane! Two hours earlier and you could have been drinking a beer on the porch in your boxers and now it was like this furious storm must pummeling everything in it's path. So I hop in my little itty bitty Honda and begin the 26 mile drive home, it took me like an hour. I had to drive through the Black Hills to get home, so it's all curvy mountain roads, which was fine. I mean the rain drops were the size of quarters and the wind was blowing STRAIGHT into my windshield, but I could handle it. Until it started to hail, and not cute pea size hail but like gumball size hail, yeah, I was gripping the steering wheel a bit tighter. I couldn't see anything!! I felt like I was in a dryer with a bunch of rocks! It was crazeee!! I'm sorry but I'm from CA and the weather there is pretty consistent and this shit was just freaking me out. Needless to say I did make it home ok and was ready for a valium, but I don't believe in pills so I opted for some chamomile tea instead. After all this? Well today is a Winter Storm Warning! 4-8 inches of snow, wind gusts up to 60 MPH! WTF!! So in any case, tonight will be cold and so today it's all about hotties to take my mind off of it!
peace

Joseph Sayers in a Pet Shop Boys Video!

...so cool! I love youtube
Didn't do much this weekend. I went out Friday with some friends and I had the BEST time! Normally when I go out here in S. Dakota it can be really boring but Friday night was actually a blast. I danced, ALMOST did Karaoke (just not drunk enough!) played pool, bar hopped, it wast great. On the other two of my friends left today for Wyoming where they had found new jobs (they're archaeologists) and I'm going to really miss them. They were hella cool and smart and funny and you could actually carry on an intelligent conversation with them. I know they will do well!
So tonight I go and meet the rest of the "crew" at the new restaurant where I will be working. We'll see how that goes.
Ok here is the video, Joseph is the Angel in wings...but of course.

The day off...

...I love taking days off, who doesn't? but today I took the day off so I could drive to Hill City and turn in my paperwork, yup, I got the server job at Desperados! So ya know, now I have to go shopping for western wear. Yeah,um, I'm a gay boy from California, to me western wear is anything that's not in style. This should be an interesting shopping trip, although there are PLENTY of places to buy clothes like that here, I mean it is S. Dakota. I'm excited though, should be decent tips and it's very nice drive through the Black Hills, hopefully my lil car will make the commute ok.
Life is wonderful.

Today's Weather

...is warm and balmy. Even though this is South Dakota. I've been meaning to post some more Joseph Sayers or Dieux du Stade pics but just haven't had time. In the mean time, put on your swim trunks and head for the beach!!

This just doesn't make sense to me...

"Are guns the answer to gay bashing? A Philadelphia group called the Pink Pistols seems to think so. They hold monthly get togethers and then shoot together at a nearby range:

"...the Pink Pistols are among the most mundane-looking human beings you could ever possibly meet. There are no tight shirts, no Versace bags and no Indigo Girls T-shirts. You could walk past one of these gun-packing people in the grocery store and not even notice them."

The rest of the story over at Towleroad

Ok, so gay people start shooting people and straight people start shooting people and bi people shoot everyone... I mean, guns don't chane anything, it's ridiculous.

One of the MANY reasons I miss and love California

Interesting and progressive:

Gay History to Become Mandatory
A bill is being considered by the state Senate that would mandate that California's schools teach about the pro-societal impact of homosexuals in America. Opponents say this bill is for indoctrination and supporters say it will battle discrimination.
California is the largest buyer of school books in the United States and as a result, will set the trend for other schools around the country. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger may have to make a decision on this controversial bill soon.
Sen. Sheila Kuehl, a Democrat from Los Angeles, wrote the proposed bill and she touts research that indicates that children may have better lives in response to this indoctrination.

Give me a break!

...so now the gay media "watchdogs" have a problem with the new Dodge Caliber commercial

I think it's a cute commercial (as it was intended to be) and saw nothing homophobic about it at all.

"...said spokeswoman Suraya Bliss.

"We were pretty surprised that there are individuals that are making the conclusion that sexual orientation can be determined by the type of clothes you wear and the type of dog that you're walking," Bliss said.

"Are they suggesting that men that wear colored shirts are gay … or that all gay men dress alike? What we would ask someone to do is look at the ad for what it is," she said. "The ad is about the Dodge Caliber, which is a small car that stands apart from the competition because of its aggressive styling, styling that's anything but cute -- the tagline for the campaign."

Ok I don't know if the people who run these gay watchdogs were called names a lot as kids and bullied or what? I mean this is not offensive to me, or maybe I wasn't bullied enough to be upset by the term fairy...or worse yet not to know the difference between a fantasy figure and a sexual slur. In any case, you can decide for yourself.

I locked myself out of my apartment!

My aunt doesn't have my spare, my landlord is to busy to bring it to me the project I'm working on work JUST ran out of money today, so I have to find new funds to bill it to and no one is offering me their budget (really?). I'm living off plastic until payday and I found out my sis is back with her drug addict girl beating just got out of jail boyfriend. *sigh* ON the other side of all that, I did meet a cute guy at school last week and he sent me an email today "just to say hello". I think we may hook up this weekend, that would be sooooo great!

Columbia House offers no live help!

Don't you hate when you call a company and their 800# has no live people but says "I'm sorry, that is not an option this menu" whenever you hit the 0 for a human being. I signed up with the Columbia DVD group and they sent me this info about how they want to go paperless and log onto the website to sign up and blah blah. So I tried, granted I don't have my account number with me, but even on the 800# you can't get past anything without FIRST entering your number. So I sent the following email (which at least they offered that).

First of all your 800 customer service number sucks! You can't get a live person. I'm here at school trying to use the DVD website for the whole "paperless" ordering but left my account info at home 45 miles away. I can't get a live person to answer my question and there is no help on this website. It's like I'm supposed to have memerized my 11 account number and just have it on me all the time. So obviously the question to this message is could you please send me my account number, and yes I'll validate my address:

Depending on the response to this message will decide on whether or not I even want to do business with a company who doesn't offer "live assistance".
Regards,
Leonard

I can't believe this!

I'm stunned, so if you're not married, you have to move to own a home? I don't even want to know what this town feels about gay people!

Today's Weather

...is cooooool. :-)
